frequently asked questions
Who can play at Cove?
Girls and boys in the 11U through 18U age groups. Whether your athlete is brand new to volleyball or already chasing big goals, there’s a place to start here.
How do age groups work?
Cove follows USA Volleyball age definitions, which are based on birth date, not school grade.
For the 2026–27 season:
18U is born 7/1/2008–6/30/2009
17U is 7/1/2009–6/30/2010
16U is 7/1/2010–6/30/2011
15U is 7/1/2011–6/30/2012
14U is 7/1/2012–6/30/2013
13U is 7/1/2013–6/30/2014
12U (for Cove) is 7/1/2014 and later
When are tryouts?
12U–14U tryouts are Saturday, October 10, 3:00–5:00 PM at the Otter Sports Center, 2050 Inter-Garrison Rd, Marina. The fee is $25 per player. Register here.
What if my athlete has never played club volleyball?
That’s okay. Our youth clinics are a great first step, and tryouts are a chance for our coaches to get to know your athlete, not just a test.
Where and how often do teams practice?
Practice days and times will be set based on player and coach availability once the teams are formed.
Practice location:
Otter Sports Center, 2050 Inter-Garrison Rd, Marina
What does a season cost?
The indoor club season fee can range anywhere from $1,600 for a local program to $5,800 for a team that travels and competes extensively throughout the US.
Cove is operated by BlueZone Volley, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We never want cost to be the reason a family says no.
